WHO Academy Inauguration Ceremony
15.00 to 17.00 CET, Lyon (France) and online
The inauguration ceremony for the WHO Academy [https://www.who.int/about/who-academy] will take place on 17 December 2024, from 15.00 to 17.00 CET in Lyon, France and will be streamed live on WHO’s social media accounts.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Academy Executive Director David Atchoarena, Secretary General of the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie Louise Mushikiwabo, dozens of Ministers of Health and Member States representatives and other officials will be in attendance.
The WHO Academy promotes lifelong learning across the health sector leading to a healthier world. It will provide a wide range of in-person and online learning opportunities for health workers, policymakers and WHO’s workforce. WHO viewpoint in JAMA on obesity and glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs)
A viewpoint by experts from the WHO Science Division and WHO Department of Nutrition and Food Safety will be published on 18 December in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA).
This viewpoint looks into transformative opportunities provided by the use of GLP-1 RAs as a novel treatment for obesity as a chronic disease, highlighting critical questions around the need for health equity in access to care across countries and across populations within countries.
